This 1973 De Tomaso Pantera L is listed as having only 5,700 miles from new, though those miles appear to have been racked up pretty quickly as the car has clearly been sitting for decades. Claimed to be complete apart from the horn button, the seller says a recent, professional assessment found only superficial rust. Find it here on eBay in Downington, Pennsylvania with no reserve. Special thanks to BaT reader Chris Y. for this submission.
Said to be the lowest mile example on the Pantera registry, no chassis number is provided. The car does indeed appear to be complete, though several spots of rust along the rockers look to be a bit more than skin-deep. How on Earth does an expensive, exotic car end up like this with so few miles? We’re sure the full story would make great reading, but unfortunately no details are provided.
The interior looks decent with salvageable upholstery, door panels, dash and center console, but gauges are cloudy and likely to be in need of restoration due to trapped moisture. Elsewhere, glass looks good and tires appear to be factory original Goodyear Arrivas.
Contrary to completeness claims, the rear luggage tray is missing, at least in the only engine bay photo provided. The front trunk is shown as well, but condition is difficult to assess due to accumulated dirt, leaves and grime. There’s no word on the state of the 351 Cleveland, but hopefully it still turns freely.
Hagerty pegs even a number four car at just under $68k, and with simple, robust mechanicals and a good degree of completeness this one may still be pretty straightforward to restore, at least if claims of limited rust turn out to be valid. We’re excited to see the final selling price, and will be keeping an eye out for future developments.
