This 1982 Fiat Spider 2000 Turbo is one of approximately 700 produced for the US in partnership with Legend Industries. This example was acquired by the seller in April 2017 from the husband of a late friend who is said to have owned it from new until 2000 and again in the late 2000s. The car is finished in metallic brown over tan vinyl, and power is from a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four linked to a five-speed manual transmission. Mechanical and cosmetic work under prior and current ownership is said to have included a repaint, interior overhaul, and period air conditioning retrofit as well as replacement of the turbocharger, brakes, tires, tune-up parts, cooling, suspension components. This 124 Turbo is offered with factory literature, service records, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
The Pininfarina-styled body has been repainted in metallic brown, and features a tan convertible soft top and chrome bumpers with rubber caps. Several blemishes can be seen close-up in the image gallery below.
Alloy wheels wear Fiat-branded center caps and are wrapped in 14″ Ohtsu FP0612 A/S tires showing 2017 date codes. The brake master cylinder and left rear line were replaced and the braking system was flushed with new fluid in 2018.
The interior is trimmed in tan vinyl with matching carpets, and was reportedly refurbished in 2008. The stereo system and speakers have been removed, while a period air conditioning system and control unit were retrofitted in 2018.
Veglia instrumentation sits behind a three-spoke steering wheel and includes an 85-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and a six-digit odometer showing just over 49k miles. Approximately 1,000 miles are said to have been added under current ownership.
The twin-cam 2.0L inline-four was originally rated at 120 horsepower with 130 lb-ft of torque in turbocharged form. A new starter relay, ignition components, turbo inlet tube, thermostat, and catalytic converter were fitted in 2017, while a replacement water pump, timing belt, and GM turbocharger were installed in 2018. A February 2019 service reportedly included an oil change as well as replacement of a turbo hose and the exhaust manifold.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. The front wheel bearings, upper and lower control arm bushings, and a fuel line were replaced and an alignment was performed in 2018. Additional images of the underside can be seen in the gallery below.
