The Lucky Collector Car Auction this weekend is a mix of mutts and purebreds, ranging from tired ’90s Isuzu-badged Honda minivans all the way up to the beautifully restored ex-London Motor Show 1930 Cadillac V16 Landaulette highlighted below as this story’s cover car. The variety makes it quite interesting, and there are some definite unexpected gems set to attend. Find the whole lot listing here, with the sale taking place in Tacoma, Washington on Friday & Saturday, May 30th through the 31st.
Up first is this stunning 1930 Cadillac V16 Landaulette De Luxe (chassis 702297) with one-off coachwork by Vanden Plas. The car was sold new by Lendrum & Hartman of London, then the UK’s official General Motors importer, prior to which it was displayed at that year’s London Motor Show at Olympia. First owned by the Hon. Arthur Ernest Guinness of the eponymous brewing giant, the car was restored in the mid-to-late 1970’s, its interim history largely unknown. It is currently in beautiful condition and is said to be running exceptionally well.
This 1967 Maserati Mistral 4000 coupe. Little information is given, but the car is said to have remained parked since 1978. We’re guessing it was stored carefully indoors, as though photos are limited the car does appear to be solid and complete with decent bodywork, trim, glass, and paint. Neither the interior nor the engine bay are shown, and even if it is rust free and complete sorting the mechanicals and electrics on this one are likely to prove an expensive and lengthy undertaking. Totally worth it, of course.
Another project, this 1964 Facel Vega Facel III is said to have been stored for the past 40 years and is being offered to settle an estate similar to the Maser above—perhaps as part of the same collection? The car looks complete with likely to be original upholstery and veneers, and though both are dirty neither seem beyond restoration. Trim, gauges, switchgear and glass all seem to be largely intact, but the rockers and a few other areas do appear to be slightly crusty. Hopefully rust is limited, allowing the car to retain as much originality as possible after restoration.
Another interesting choice is a GM halo car, this 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Fuelie Roadster (chassis 30867S109460). Said to be matching numbers, it appears to have been restored at some point and sold with a fresh soft top as well as a good-looking hardtop. The car is a high-spec example fitted with power steering, power brakes, and a 4-speed manual. It’s said to need nothing and looks quite clean throughout with an excellent Sebring Silver over black color combo.
Will anyone in the area be attending? We’d love to hear about your experience below, regardless if you’re going with a pocket full of hundreds or just window shopping.
